frequently asked questions
(huh?? oohhh!!)
Q: Why are your products scent free? Aren't essential oils all natural?
A: We choose not to add any scent to our products for 3 reasons:
1. Essential oils are natural, however they are also very potent and various ones
should be used with caution on some people (children, pregnant women, nursing
mothers, etc.) We want über naturals to be enjoyed by as many people as possible!
2. Some essential oils (i.e. the citrus family) are also phototoxic (make you more
sensitive to the sun), so should be used with caution in skin care products!
3. What smells really great to one person does not necessarily smell really great
to another! By being able to add your own scent, you create only what you
luv!

Q: How do I add customized scent to my products?
A: There are different ways to add scent to products (i.e. essential oils which are natural, or
fragrance oils which are synthetic). Before choosing anything, please consult a professional to ensure its safety and the recommended amount for your intended purposes.

Q: Why doesn't the sun savvy lotion contain an SPF #?
A: If we put those three little letters on the lotion, we would be selling a "drug", which comes with some pretty big implications. Our lotion contains 18% zinc oxide (non nano), which is a physical barrier to the sun, as well as sesame seed oil, hemp seed oil, and coconut oil, all of which have natural SPF properties. Similar products have an SPF rating of 30. For maximum protection, please use common sense precautions for any amount of sun exposure.
Q: Why do my plain jane lotion/cocoa body butter seem thicker
when it's cold, and thinner when it's hot?
A: These products contain coconut oil & cocoa butter, which are both solid at room temperature, but have a low melt point! Not to worry!! It is just the natural state of the ingredients and won't affect the products' great properties!
Q: Why create a diaper rash alternative without zinc?
A: While zinc is a natural mineral which has a long history of healing properties, it can also cause water to repel, which makes it difficult to wash off cloth diapers! And who needs that really? Eewww!!
Q: Is your Top to Bottom Baby Wash tear free?
A: Unfortunately, no. Because it is a true liquid soap, it will cause mild irritation if it gets in the eyes. Please use caution. We are constantly striving to improve this aspect of our wash, and hope to have a tear free version soon.
Q: I love how soft and manageable my daughter's long hair is after I use your Top to Bottom Baby Wash on her, so I tried it myself! How come I don't get the same results?
A: From what I understand, the answer is simple and complicated all at the same time! Most of us have been using commercial shampoos for a long time, which are not true "soaps", but rather detergents which strip our scalp of all its natural oils (hence the need to use a conditioner). When we try switching to a true soap that contains oils, we go through a "transition phase" and usually get a nasty residue buildup! Our family is slowly but surely embracing the "no (sham)poo movement", which literally means we have not used shampoo (or conditioner) in a long while, and so far the results have been fabulous. Q: What do the ingredients in brackets mean? Are they necessary?
A: The ingredient listed in brackets is the INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) name for that specific ingredient. In 2006, Health Canada mandated that all personal care products for sale in Canada have INCI labelling. INCI names are based on the Latin language, and are used internationally.
Q: I noticed my product says "best if used within 6-12 after opening." Does that mean it's going to go bad after 6 months?
A: Due to our natural preservative system, our products definitely have a shorter life span (once opened) than those laden with chemical preservatives! However, how long your specific product lasts will depend on various factors!! Keeping products out of direct sunlight, using clean hands to apply products, exposing products to minimal air, and keeping products cool
will all help prolong their natural shelf life! We do keep samples from each batch we make and all of them that have exceeded the one year mark are just fine!

Q: Can I "try before I buy?"
A: Of course! Gather up a few friends, and I'd be happy to come chat and show you the products! Please note, I am NOT a home-based party business and will NOT be asking you to sell anything or join a team!
